Menopause Friendly Workplace
The UK government is introducing mandatory legislation from April 2027, to ensure that employers with 250 or more employees produce a ‘Menopause Action Plan’ to support employees experiencing menopause. They are required to demonstrate the steps they are taking to implement this. Read the guidance here. I believe smaller organisations should create a menopause friendly workplace too.
Why is a menopause friendly workplace important?
Women over 50 are the fastest growing group in the workforce yet research suggests that one third of women in midlife have been unable to attend work due to debilitating menopausal symptoms. Women report that some work environments make these symptoms worse. It is estimated that menopause costs the UK economy 14 million working days a year.
If your organisation can meet the needs of employees experiencing menopause, and raise awareness and understanding of these needs with their colleagues, it will:
Improve workplace wellbeing.
Reduce sick days.
Capitalise on the valuable skillsets and experience of menopausal women.
Increase retention.
Improve team productivity, efficiency, engagement, wellbeing, frustrations and stress.
Creating a menopause friendly workplace will allow people and teams to show up to work feeling their best and thrive. Better team communication means that collaboration is more effective, teams are happier and better managed, so your business will benefit.
Menopause in the Workplace Training
As a menopausal woman myself, with a corporate background and educated to Master’s level in both Psychology and Nutrition, I have designed three linked, interactive workshops. People in your organisation will learn tools to:
Formulate practical solutions to meet the needs of women experiencing menopause.
Design flexible and realistic workplace adjustments.
Create a support network for peri-menopausal and menopausal women.
Utilise behaviour change strategies in the workplace.
Use nutritional solutions to reduce menopausal symptoms, lower the risk of longer term health issues, maximise energy and increase productivity.
Enhance communication around menopause in colleagues of all ages and gender identities, so that team members can talk and listen sensitively, with confidence.
Why are my sessions different?
As a Registered Nutritionist, I am keen to highlight where nutrition plays a role in supporting women experiencing menopause. I therefore deliver dietary solutions within all sessions, where appropriate. Ultimately, if women can find nutritional tools to reduce poor sleep, brain fog, hot flushes, anxiety and fatigue, their productivity increases, there are less sick days and your business will benefit.
I could not be more passionate about this topic, delivering engaging content with positivity, sensitivity and without judgement.
Sessions can be delivered in person or online. Content and pricing details are given below.
I am well placed to deliver these menopause speaking sessions sensitively, because I have lived menopause experience (in rather too glorious and detailed technicolour!)
In 2014, following a diagnosis of hormonally positive breast cancer, I was thrown into medically induced peri-menopause aged 42. I am unable to use HRT for the rest of my life. I can therefore empathise with the difficulties women face when navigating menopause: physically, cognitively, emotionally and professionally.
As a Registered Nutritionist, with a Master’s degree in Nutrition, I have found many nutritional solutions and made practical adaptations in my own lifestyle. With the help of culturally diverse research, and leaning on my Master’s degree in Psychology, I have shifted my mindset to perceive menopause more positively. It is a time of wisdom and experience to be celebrated. This is not to belittle the significant difficulties people like me face, but with the right support, women in this phase of life can be an extremely valuable members of a team.
Corporate Menopause Workshops:
-

Menopause: Managing Symptoms
Falling oestrogen creates many physical symptoms, such as hot flushes, weight gain, insomnia, stiff joints, dry skin, fatigue and anxiety. Practical adjustments, including many realistically achievable dietary changes, can positively impact many of these.
This workshop empower women to manage symptoms of menopause with lifestyle factors. This includes workplace adjustments/flexibility, changing mindset/perspective and of course, focusing on the balance of their diet. An array of simple, actionable tips are given to lessen the debilitating impact of hormonal flux.
-

Menopause: Protecting Health
Many people don’t realise that menopause is not just about managing symptoms. Falling oestrogen is seriously detrimental to significant aspects of health, such heart health, bone density, mobility and muscle loss.
Diet can support women to prepare for this, even years before peri-menopause starts. Educating women of all ages about this is a worthwhile investment for organisations to reduce sick days and improve retention, long term development and health of staff.
This workshop explains what aspects of diet are important to consider for women as they age, including practical ideas of how to embed effective dietary habits into busy working lives.

Menopause: Considerations for Teams
Mutual respect, tolerance and understanding between genders and ages is at the heart of effective team building. If colleagues can better understand the issues facing women in midlife, teams are better managed and collaboration is more effective.
This menopause in the workplace training provides practical suggestions around routines, ways of working, infrastructure and nutrition, to accommodate the needs of peri-menopausal and menopausal women in the workplace.
